Sicherheit (Pexels, allgemeine Nutzung)[German]Security experts from Qualys TRU have discovered two vulnerabilities in the OpenSSH software. In addition, an advisory on another vulnerability was published on February 11, 2024. OpenSSL 3.4, 3.3 and 3.2 are affected by this vulnerability, although upgrades to newer OpenSSL versions are available.

Microsoft account: Users do not stay logged in after all

[German]Brief update for users who sign in to services online with Microsoft accounts. From February 2025, Microsoft wanted to keep users signed in when they leave the service. This has now been withdrawn, as it could have become a problem if multiple users or accounts were used.

Firefox 115 ESR: Windows 7/8.1 Support till September 2025

Mozilla[German]Mozilla Firefox 115 ESR still runs on Windows 7 / 8.1 and has been in extended support for some time. It was previously known that the developers wanted to support this browser version until March 2025. The Mozilla developers have now confirmed that Firefox 115 ESR support for some older Windows and macOS operating systems will be guaranteed until September 2025.

FSLogix 25.02 (3.25.202.4223)

Update[German]Short addendum from last week – on February 12, 2025, Microsoft released a FXLogix update to 25.02 (3.25.202.4223). The release notes state that – among other things – the cache should now be deleted cleanly. Could solve some problems in this environment. Fixed a problem related to symlink reparse points that affected App-V and other components with similar calls.

WSUS problem: Clients have not logged in since 12.2.2025

Windows[German]A German blog reader contacted me on February 13, 2025 because he was experiencing problems with his WSUS. The Windows clients had not reported to WSUS since February 12, 2025. This could be corrected by reading back the backup. But the question is whether anyone else has noticed anything like this, or whether it is an isolated case? After publishing the German article, other admins reported also this issue.

Windows function "Location history" deprecated

Windows[German]In my opinion, it is still a left over from the time when Microsoft wanted to make a splash with Windows Mobile phones and Cortana. Back then, the "Location Service" was implemented in Windows. Microsoft has now announced that the "Location History" is classified as obsolete and will be removed from future Windows versions at some point.

Windows 11 24H2: Install issues on ASUS devices fixed

Windows[German]Since October 2024, owners of ASUS computers that appear to be formally compatible with Windows 11 24H2 have faced the problem that no feature upgrade was offered or the installation failed. Microsoft has now resolved this problem and removed the upgrade blocker on Windows 11 24H2.
