At August 2, 2016 Microsoft has begun the Windows 10 Anniversary Update rollout. But some users are still waiting for this update (I have also a machine still waiting for this update). But this isn't unusual.
In a blog post How to get the Windows 10 Anniversary Update Microsoft explained, how Windows 10 Anniversary Update will be shipped. The rollout via Windows Update is being rolled out to Windows 10 PCs across the world in phases. The update starting with the newer machines first. Then older machines will receive the Anniversary Update. Because my test machine is really old (10 years), I have to wait a while.
Microsoft describes how to get Windows 10 Anniversary Update manually via Settings > Updates & Security > Windows Update – but that did not work till yet on my machine.
A better way is to download Media Creation Tool and use this tool to download an install image. That ISO image may be burned on DVD or be used to create a USB stick. Then load Windows 10, mount the DVD/USB stick and execute setup.exe from this media. A setup wizard will guide you through the update. Windowscentral.com has a guide and Martin Brinkman from ghacks.net also.
Another way should be to download the official ISO-Images from Microsoft's Techbench program and use the approach drawn above to run the update. Unfortunately the Techbench site is down (see this MS Answers thread).
