[German]Microsoft has re-released Updates KB3150513 and KB4015219 for Windows 10. It seems, that some users are running into trouble with these updates. Here are a few details.
Update KB4015219 for Windows 10 Version 1511
I have mentioned update KB4015219 within my blog post Windows 10: security updates April 11, 2017. Now this update is shown in Microsoft Update Catalog with a new release date May 4, 2017. More details are not offered. A user released a comment within my German blog that update KB4015219 exchanges update KB4016636.
I found this thread, where a user had trouble installing an old version of this update. But I'm not sure, whether this is the reason for re-release.
Update KB3150513 for Windows 10 Version 1607
Update KB3150513 is the 'Latest compatibility definition update for Windows'. Microsoft writes:
This update provides the latest set of definitions for compatibility diagnostics that are performed on the system. The updated definitions will help enable Microsoft and its partners to ensure compatibility for all customers who want to install the latest Windows operating system. Installing this update also makes sure that the latest Windows operating system version is correctly offered through Windows Update, based on compatibility results.
This update may not be offered concurrently to all platforms. It will be available only to platforms for which there are new definitions available.
This update has prerequisites.
An update, some users don't like to install due to telemetry works. This updates has been re-released at May 2, 2017, see Windows 10 Version 1607: Update KB3150513 re-released. Microsoft has changed the files Appraiser.sdb, Appraiser_data.ini and Appraiser_telemetryrunlist.xml.
Is update KB3150513 are causing Outlook 2016 issues?
At Askwoody I found this post (I'm in contact with Woody Leonhard to exchange information). A user wrote:
Writing a quick thank you note for your article titled "Mystery update KB 3150513 makes yet another reappearance".
It started yesterday afternoon when I couldn't open Outlook 2016. After looking around a bit today on both my computer and the web, I noticed a new update that downloaded yesterday morning. Googling for help about the error that was showing on my system, "Cannot start Microsoft outlook. Cannot open the outlook window. The set of folders cannot be opened", found no relief. But then, I came upon your aforementioned article, put two and two together, saw that I didn't want this update on my computer and quickly uninstalled the update and voila! Outlook works. YaY!
So, I'm writing this for two reasons: 1st to say thank you for your article and blog that, unbeknownst to you until now, pointed me in the right direction to be able to once again use outlook and 2nd – in case you see others having this same issue, perhaps this bit of information from my experience will help them too before experiencing too much frustration.
In short: this user was facing the issue, that Outlook 2016 won't open after installing this update. After uninstalling update KB3150513, Outlook 2016 works again. Searching the web I found some reports with issues in Outlook search, with printers and so on. WindowsReport.com has compiled this list of (older) issues. Don't know, if those issues are still valid for the re-released version of this update. Maybe it's simple coincidence that issues occur after installing this update. Any additional thoughts/experienced? Thx to Leon for some tips.
