iCloud and Outlook: Only 902 calendar entries?

[German]A strange story, which I just post here in the blog. If you want to set up Microsoft Outlook with the Apple iCloud calendar, how many appointments are allowed? There is a maximum number of 902 entries that I've noticed recently.

Apple's iCloud client for Windows is a thankful topic for bloggers. There is always something to report (see link list at end of article). Now I encountered a problem with iCloud calendar synchronization.

What exactly is it about?

iCloud is an online service from Apple introduced in 2011 that can store and synchronize data. All you need is an Apple account, which you can get for free. iCloud doesn't just allow you to store files like photos. You can also manage appointments with the iCloud calendar.

Apple devices for iOS and macOS have apps to synchronize with the iCloud. For Windows, Apple provides the iCloud for Windows client free of charge. It is available as a Windows application for download or as an app from the Microsoft Store (only for Windows 10).

However, since many Windows users use Microsoft Outlook from Office 2016 or Office 365, it makes sense to integrate the iCloud account there. Then calendar, mail etc. can be synchronized and managed in Outlook. The setup of iCloud for Windows is described by Apple here. iCloud for Windows 5.1 and newer should support Outlook 2016 (Outlook 365 is not mentioned). On the Apple website you will also find information on how to use iCloud:

It is important that two-factor authentication has been set up to log in to the account using an Apple ID.

Is there a limit of 902 calendar events?

A few hours ago I came across an entry on Facebook that suggests that there is a limit to the number of calendar events in the iCloud. A user tried to set up an iCloud account in Outlook and wanted to synchronize his calendar entries. The following error message was displayed.

iClout und Outlook: Max. 902 Ereignisse
(Screenshot: iCloud and Outlook supports max. 902 entries, Source Facebook)

The Outlook connector reports that too many events exist in the iCloud account to be synchronized. The error message:

Too many events
iCloud supports a maximum of 902 events.

That would be a blatant story, of course. The free storage space on iCloud is limited to 5 GByte – but what about entries? I searched the internet and came across Apple's Limits for iCloud Contacts, Calendars, Reminders, and Bookmarks

Calendars and Reminders

  • Total number of calendars, events, and reminders: 50,000
  • Maximum combined number of calendars and reminder lists you can have: 100
  • Maximum size of all calendar and reminder data (not including attachments): 1GB
  • Maximum size of a calendar event including attachments: 20MB
  • Maximum number of attachments per event: 20
  • Maximum number of attendees you can invite to an event: 300
  • Maximum number of people with whom you can share a private calendar: 100
  • Maximum number of characters in a reminder title: 1000

Currently, I'm interpreting the above message so that there is either this limit in the Outlook iCloud connector. Or any of the other limits listed above causes the display. Has any of you ever had this message? Is there an explanation?
