[German]There is a partial fix for a problem that users of monitors on DisplayPort 1.4 have. Some monitors (with higher resolution) stay dark (black) when booting the computer and show nothing. Only when the operating system is loaded does a display appear on the monitor at some point. It seems to be due to the hardware or the installed nVidia graphics cards. At least the manufacturer Asus has now apparently released a solution in the form of a vBIOS update for the TUF 3080 TI.
What is the problem?
In the meantime, newer graphics cards and devices prefer to use a DisplayPort to control external monitors. DisplayPort is a universal and license-free connection standard for the transmission of digital image and sound signals, standardized by the Video Electronics Standards Association (VESA), which is used to connect computer monitors to PCs or notebooks.
But there is one problem that users suffer from. Certain monitors remain dark at boot time when a DisplayPort 1.4 is used. Only a loaded operating system will eventually bring up a display on the monitor. Of course, this then has the problem that no BIOS or UEFI settings or boot commands can be displayed and set on this monitor. The user is flying blind.
It also becomes problematic with installed Windows 10 when the system boots during a half-yearly function update and the monitor remains dark. You cannot see what is happening during this phase. And if a system freezes, it is rather attributed to an error during the Windows 10 upgrade, instead of the DisplayPort effect.
The whole thing seems to occur with Nvidia graphics units. In the blog post nVidia: Monitor remains dark at DisplayPort 1.4 during bootup, I had discussed the problem in more detail. This article also shows some workarounds, from downgrading to DisplayPort 1.2 or 1.3 to an nVidia firmware upgrade tool for Windows 10.
Solution for Asus TUF 3080 TI
In this German comment, blog reader J. Fries points out that there is a solution to the DisplayPort issue for the Asus TUF 3080 TI. The TUF 3080 TI in an Nvidia GeForce RTX™ 3080 Ti, and Asus has provided a vBIOS update for the Display Port issue. The BIOS firmware update should be downloadable from this ASUS page.
