[German]There is some confusion about the Edge update to version 114.0.1823.55. This was shipped briefly, but then probably withdrawn. On the other hand, the Web-View2-Runtime is offered via WSUS in version 114.0.1823.55. I summarize some information, which reached me from my blog reader.
Edge 114.0.1823.55 shortly available
I hat reported it in my blog post Edge 114.0.1823.51 about the Edge update distributed on June 15, 2023, which closed a vulnerability. In both the German (here) and the English-blog (here) was the feedback, that Microsoft was already distributing Edge version 114.0.1823.55 on June 19, 2023.
However, on the release notes page, .51 is the last version listed. Only this Microsoft web page states "Fixed various bugs and performance issues".
Edge pulled?
However, an unnamed German user comes forward in this comment and warns that this update to the Edge browser has been withdrawn on WSUS and is now showing as "expired":
Attention!
Version 114.0.1823.55 (came tonight also for WSUS) has just been withdrawn by MS for WSUS.
Reader MOM20xx also confirms this in this comment – there is no information from Microsoft what happened (I haven't found anything about it until today). Question to WSUS administrators: Is the version available again in the meantime?
Web-View2 Runtime Version 114.0.1823.55
Microsoft must have then also released the Web-View2-Runtime version 114.0.1823.55 – this was offered to administrators via WSUS. A blog reader contacted me on Facebook about this with the following note.
Hello Günter,
once again a small info-splitter from my side regarding the Edge browser. I was just offered on my (private) WSUS the update for the Web-View2-Runtime, version 114.0.1823.55.
The current version of the Edge, and also of the (unfortunately) necessary ADMX files, in order to be able to keep the "excesses" of the browser halfway in check is currently still version x.x.x.51. Shows me again unfortunately that one loses there slowly but surely the overview!
In the past, it was so that I was first presented the "new" Edge and 24 hours later the associated WebView in WSUS. And a few days later I got the info from MS that there is new ADMX.
I'm curious if there is now the possibility to hide the annoying "Basic Browser Information" icon in corporate environments. I've had plenty of employees who accidentally and unknowingly clicked on it and were slightly annoyed by the (in my eyes useless info).
Personally, I can live without such "gimmicks" – but Microsoft has a different opinion on many things than the users. Maybe my tip worth a "side note in your blog, which I appreciate very much.
Question for the administrators with WSUS: Are Edge and Web-View2-Runtime on the same revision level and do the ADMX templates for the group policies fit?
