Linux Mint Debian Edition (LMDE) 6 "Faye" Released

[German]The Mint development team has released the Linux distribution LMDE 6 "Faye" for download on September 27, 2023 after a short beta phase. The abbreviation LMDE stands for "Linux Mint Debian Edition", i.e. an edition that closely resembles Debian.

LMDE aims to be as similar as possible to Linux Mint, but without using Ubuntu. The package base is therefore provided by Debian. The developers' goal with the LMDE edition is to ensure that Linux Mint would be able to continue to provide the same user experience in the event that Ubuntu disappears. LMDE also aims to ensure that software developed by the Mint team is compatible outside of Ubuntu.

In this blog post, you will find some information such as the upgrade information to move from LMDE 5 as well as the following system specifications needed to run Linux Mint Debian Edition 6:

  • 2 GB RAM (4 GB recommended for comfortable use).
  • 20 GB Festplattenspeicher (100 GB recommended).
  • 1024×768 resolution (at lower resolutions you can press the ALT key to move windows with the mouse if they do not fit on the screen).

The release notes can be viewed on this website. There are both 64-bit and 32-bit ISOs available on this website via torrent. Faye is based on Debian Bookworm and comes as a Long term support release (LTS). (via)
