PowerToys 0.75.1 released (Nov. 1, 2023)

Windows[German]Brief addendum: Microsoft released PowerToys version 0.75 with a new dashboard at the end of October. Hours later, however, the bug fix update to version 0.75.1 had to be pushed out. So the tools for "improving" certain Windows functions continue. Here is an overview of the current status.

PowerToys 0.75 released

PowerToys version 0.75 was released at the end of October 2023, and the details can be found on this Github page. The following highlights can be found there:

  • New utility: An environment variable editor with the ability to configure profiles that can be enabled/disabled.
  • Settings have a new dashboard home page with quick access for activating modules, short descriptions and activation methods.
  • A preview image has been added to Peek, which provides preview images for the file explorer to support any file type a machine can currently display. This means, for example, that Peek can preview Office files if Microsoft Office handlers are installed.

The developer also lists a number of changes, corrections and new features for this version. The program is available in a 64-bit version for ARM and X64 CPUs on GitHub.

PowerToys 0.75.1 added

Version 0.75.1 of PowerToys had to be updated on November 1, 2023 because bugs were causing problems. The details are described on this Github page. It says:

  • #29491 – Generalizing a fix for snapping popup windows caused many applications to not be snapped by FancyZones. We have reverted this change for this patch and will look for a better solution for a future release.
  • #29465 – We recently added more ways for PowerToys Run plugin developers to include different data types as additional options for their plugins, but these were not initializing correctly. Now they should work.

The updated version is available for download on GitHub.

Microsoft documents the PowerToys

Until now, the project was something that Cliff Rutkas "developed on his own"; and he documented the corrections on Github. The other day I came across the following tweet that Microsoft now has an official page where the PowerToys modules are described.
