Windows 10 22H2 Preview Update KB5035941 (March 26, 2024)

Windows[German]Microsoft has released an optional cumulative (preview) update KB5035941 for Windows 10 22H2 on March 26, 2024 (D-Week). This is intended to fix numerous bugs in Windows 10 22H2 and brings minor improvements (widget on lock screen, Spotlight desktop backgrounds). Below is an overview of these updates for Windows 10.The information on the updates can be found on the Windows 10 update history page. Please note that these updates are so-called preview updates. These are optional and must be initiated manually for download and installation by default.

Windows 10 Preview Update KB5035941

Cumulative Preview Update KB5035941 is available for Windows 10 version 22H2 (all versions). The following highlights are listed.

  • New! This update adds Windows Spotlight to your desktop background. This feature displays new images as your desktop background. If you want to learn more about an image, click or tap the Learn more button, which will take you to Bing. To enable this feature, go to Settings > Personalization > Background > Personalize your background. Select Windows Spotlight. *)
  • New! This update adds more content to your lock screen. In addition to the weather, sports, traffic and financial information will now also be displayed. To activate this function, go to Settings > Personalization > Lock screen. *)
  • This update fixes a problem that affects the touch keyboard. Sometimes it cannot be opened.
  • When you sign in, you may see a message prompting you to upgrade to Windows 11. This message will only be displayed if your device is eligible for an upgrade. *)

The above items marked with *) are provided by Microsoft with the note that the features may not be available to all users as they are being introduced gradually. The so-called spotlights for desktop backgrounds and the widgets (weather etc.) for the lock screen should be mentioned here. Anyone using a compatible computer should note that an upgrade notice for Windows 11 will appear after the update installation following a user logon. If you do not want this, you should block the upgrade (e.g. deactivate TPM in the UEFI).

The support article KB5035941 also contains a long list of quality improvements and fixes that Microsoft has specified for the update (these will be included in the security update for the following month). For example, the update makes changes to Windows Hello for Business. IT administrators can now use Mobile Device Management (MDM) to disable the prompt that appears when users log on to a computer connected to Entra. The "DisablePostLogonProvisioning" policy setting is available for this purpose. The update will add search markers for the European Economic Area to the search box in the taskbar. This function will also be rolled out gradually.

The update is optional and is offered via Windows Update if the user explicitly searches for updates on the Settings page and then selects the optional update for download and installation. The update can also be downloaded and installed from the Microsoft Update Catalog. The latest Servicing Stack Update (SSU) is integrated.
