[German]Brief note for administrators and users who use Microsoft Teams as a client and make recordings of meetings there. Microsoft wants to change the storage of these recordings from May 2024, away from the user's OneDrive folder and towards the meeting organizer. I only came across a short tweet about this recently, with no further source. However, I did some searching on the web and it seems to be an official announcement from Microsoft.
I came across the following tweet at the end of March 2024, which addresses this change to the storage location for meeting recordings. The message reads: "Microsoft is changing the way Microsoft Teams recordings are stored."
Microsoft Teams will in future store meeting recordings in the OneDrive for Business folder of the meeting organizer and not, as previously, in the OneDrive for Business folder of the person who initiated the recording. The background is that this improves the compliance of the recordings, as the meeting organizers can then manage the access rights and administration of the recording files.
Microsoft plans to start introducing this change from May 2024. Users are unlikely to need to take any steps to prepare for this change. However, administrators can inform their users about this change and update the relevant documentation if necessary.
On the platform X, the poster of the above tweet was asked for a source, which he failed to provide. I then did a bit of searching on "this internet". I came across the article Microsoft Teams: Teams meeting recordings will be saved to meeting organizer's OneDrive for Business by João Ferreira, which confirms the whole thing. It states that the information was originally published by Microsoft in the Microsoft 365 Message Center. The entry can be found in the Microsoft 365 roadmap:
Microsoft Teams: Teams meeting recordings will be saved to meeting organizer's OneDrive for Business
With this change Teams meeting recordings will be saved to the meeting organizer's OneDrive for Business instead of to the OneDrive for Business folder of the person who initiated the recording. This improves the compliance of recordings as meeting organizers can then manage access permissions and recording file management.
