Windows 11 24H2: Numerous show-stoppers and known bugs

Windows[German]Before the release of Windows 11 24H2 for "early adoptors", Microsoft has published a list of the first so-called show stoppers, that are known to be blocking the upgrade, has been published. Even before the release, Microsoft published also a list of known issues associated with this feature upgrade.

Windows 11 24H2: A bumpy start

Windows 11 Version 24H2 was made available to interested users on October 1, 2024 (see Windows 11 24H released (Oktober 1, 2024)). Brave users have upgraded their machines and some have run into problems.

Microsoft had already published an extensive list of known issues in the Release Health Status site under Windows 11, version 24H2 known issues and notifications.

Asphalt 8 problems

Asphalt 8 is a multiplayer game that causes problems under Windows 11 24H2. An exception (BSOD) may occur on devices running Asphalt 8. Microsoft has set up a compatibility lock that prevents the upgrade from older Windows versions. The details are described in the article Asphalt 8 might periodically stop responding.

Intel Smart Sound Technology driver

Devices with Windows 11, version 24H2, on which certain Intel SST drivers are present, may trigger a blue screen (BSOD) error. The affected Intel® Smart Sound Technology (Intel® SST) Audio Controller driver is listed in the Device Manager under System Devices and has the file name ""IntcAudioBus.sys". If this file has the version 10.29.0.5152 or 10.30.0.5152, this problem may occur.

Only devices with an Intel 11th Gen Core processor and an Intel SST driver version of 10.29.0.5152 or 10.30.0.5152 are affected by this issue. Microsoft has set an upgrade stop for machines with these drivers. The update is not offered there.

IT administrators using Windows Update for Business reports can check this issue with the protection ID 51876952. Microsoft has documented the details in the article Compatibility issues with Intel Smart Sound Technology drivers. A driver update should provide a remedy.

Wallpaper customizations fail

Applications for customizing wallpapers may not work as expected. Several applications are probably affected. A compatibility lock has been set up by Microsoft. Problems with fingerprint sensors

Problems can occur with fingerprint sensors after a device has been locked. Several device models are affected and Microsoft has set a compatibility lock that blocks the upgrade. Problems with Easy Anti-Cheat

Some devices that use Easy Anti-Cheat no longer respond and trigger a blue screen. The cause: Older driver versions of the Easy Anti-Cheat application are not compatible with Windows 11, version 24H2. Safe Exam Browser

The Safe Exam Browser application may not open. This is because devices running version 3.7 or a lower version of this application are not compatible with Windows 11, version 24H2. Microsoft has disclosed the details in the support article Safe Exam Browser application might fail to open.
