[German]Quick question for administrators and users of Microsoft 365 installations. Have there been problems with sending emails since October 22, 2024? I have received corresponding reports. There are also a number of known and unknown problems for October 2024. I will summarize these points in a collective article.
Issues sending mails
As of October 22, 2024, there may have been problems with sending emails under Outlook.
A first reader report
I received the first report on October 23, 2024, when a reader informed me that there was probably a problem at Microsoft (Office 365) on October 22, 2024. The reader wrote that outgoing emails were not being transported for various users at some companies.
The error pattern: In Outlook (desktop), these were in the outbox as normal and there was no error message. The problem still persisted on October 23, 2024, as the reader wrote. Unfortunately, the reader did not specify whether Exchange Online or outlook.com Server was used.
The reader has created a ticket with Microsoft and suspects many others are affected. He asked if I had heard anything, which I can deny. Anyone else affected?
Reports in Microsoft Answers forum?
I did a quick search on the Internet – on October 22, 2024, there is an entry in the Microsoft Answers forum about new outlook not sending mail, but it refers to the new Outlook app.
However, it shows a slightly different error pattern: Microsoft has just switched the affected person's email program to the new Outlook app. After the changeover, it was no longer possible to send emails, only to receive them. However, the error message 7ae4 was constantly displayed.
There are also older entries in Microsoft Answers, such as here, which report that emails suddenly stopped being sent after an Outlook update. However, the cases do not quite fit.
Signature cannot be saved
A few days ago, blog reader Tobias pointed out another crude problem with Outlook 365 to me on X.
If he tries to save a signature in Microsoft Outlook 365 version 2410, he receives the error message shown in the screenshot above. Outlook only accepts short file names in the ancient 8.3 scheme when saving. Microsoft is once again proving to be extremely innovative – the 8.3 scheme was abolished with Windows 95 – and the developers in Redmond are "going retro". This bug has been fixed in Outlook 365 version 2411 – at least.
