Warning: Allegedly leaked GTA San Andreas source code with malware

Stop - Pixabay[German]The source code of the Rockstar Games game GTA San Andreas is allegedly being offered for download on the Internet. First hints seem to have appeared on the internet since yesterday (see e.g. the article Rockstar reportedly faces another major leak as fans await GTA 6 release). It has been hailed as the "biggest leak" for Rockstar Games and there may be some people clamoring for the files. But the latest reports say it's fake and the leak contains ransomware.

A ZIP archive is probably circulating, which is supposed to be protected with a password. People are currently being warned not to take up the offer to buy the password, as something is fishy. On reddit.com there is this post with this tenor. GamesRadar+ reported in the following tweet and added in this article that the archive, claiming it's  TA San Andreas, is a fake and that the password protected archive contains ransomware.

GTA San Andreas source code leak comes with malware

The editorial team from German site heise compiled the information here a few hours ago. They say that security researchers think the whole thing is a fake. Anyone who wants to look inside the ZIP archive could encounter Rhysida ransomware when unpacking it. I don't think that the readership belongs to the "I must have the leaked archive" clientele – but I'm posting the information here as a precaution.
