[German]Sometimes users are facing error code 0x80073712 during installing Updates in Windows. I've seen this error from time to time since Windows Vista. Here are a few details about that issue.
What doe's error 0x80073712 stands for?
A few weeks ago I run across this error code browsing Microsoft Answers forums. So I thought, to write a short article about that error. First of all I tried to find out more details about error code 0x80073712. it stands for a broken or corrupt Windows component store (ERROR_SXS_COMPONENT_STORE_CORRUPT). The folder WinSxS contains missing or damaged files.
Windows component store (located in sub folder WinSxS) contains features, to handle updates and customize Windows. Microsoft has published this Technet article about component store.
How to fix ERROR_SXS_COMPONENT_STORE_CORRUPT?
The next question is, how to fix ERROR_SXS_COMPONENT_STORE_CORRUPT. The first step should be a system file check using sfc .
1. Open an administrative command prompt window (type cmd in Windows search box and use Run as administrator context menu).
2. Enter sfc /scannow within administrative command prompt windows and wait for results of sfc check.
I've discussed this in detail within my blog post Check and repair Windows system files and component store. Sometimes sfc is able to fix the broken component store.
In Windows 7 you can use also System Update Readyness tool (CheckSUR) – see Microsoft's article Fix Windows Update errors by using the DISM or System Update Readiness tool. From Windows 8 onward, CheckSUR has been exchanged with DISM (see Microsoft's article).
This approach has also been proposed within this Microsoft Answers forum thread. If that doesn't, try a repair install using an inplace upgrade (installing Windows from within a running Windows, to keep data and programs).
